This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Baltimore, Maryland and Luxor, Egypt Sister City relationship. To celebrate this milestone, the Baltimore-Luxor Sister City Committee (BLASCC) will partner with the Mayor’s Office, the Walters Art Museum, the World Trade Center Institute, the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Maryland State Department of Business & Economic Development, to host a variety of celebratory events scheduled to take place in the first week of November of 2007. The Governor of Luxor, Egypt, Dr. Samir Farag and his delegation which includes Egyptian businesses will join the City of Baltimore in these celebrations. | |

Baltimore-
Luxor Business Seminar: In celebration of
25 years’ friendship, the Mayor’s Office of International
and Immigrant Affairs, and the Baltimore-Luxor Sister City Committee
will host a dynamic business seminar and networking luncheon. Participants
include Luxor Governor Samir Farag, Egyptian Ambassador to the
US Nabil Fahmy, Ms. Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley, Office Director
for Egypt and the Levant at US Department of State and business
leaders from Egypt and Maryland. This unique seminar will present
a comprehensive overview on doing business with Egypt – gateway
to Africa and the Middle East; economic development and investment
opportunities for both American and Egyptian businesses; and seminars
in Information Technology, Construction & Engineering, and
Tourism, Medical Services. Program partners include: the Egyptian
Embassy, Maryland Department of Business & Economic Development
and the World Trade Center Institute. |

People-to-People
Event: This family-style event provides
an opportunity for Baltimoreans and the Luxor delegation to celebrate those
experiences over the last twenty-five years that promoted friendship, goodwill
and international relations. Program activities include greetings from
Baltimore and Luxor, student musical and dance performances, 25 Year Pictorial
Remembrance, Memorial for Flight 990 Exchange Students, and an international
sing-along followed by a reception. |
The
event takes place on Friday, November 2, 2007 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm
at the Northwood Appold Community Academy, 4417 Loch Raven Boulevard |

Gala
Event: The BLASCC and the Walters Art Museum
will co-host a Gala event that will include Egyptian lite-fare
reception, folklore music and dancing performed by the well-known
group “National Egyptian Folkloric Troupe of Egypt”,
and a Bazaar. |

Art
Competition: Celebrate with us on Saturday, November
3, 2007, as the Governor of Luxor and the Egyptian Ambassador to
the United
States visit the Walters Art Museum to observe the 25th anniversary of
this Sister City collaboration. As part of this special event we will
be putting kids’ artwork on display! |
Mail it to: Family Program, The Walters Art Museum, 600 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. Or drop it off at the Family Art Center with Education Staff on Saturdays between 11AM and 3PM. Three winners will be notified. Join us at the museum on November 3 to view your artwork on display! |

Students Lecture Series: Five Egyptian guests provide lectures in five Baltimore schools at elementary, middle and senior high school levels. Students will receive first-hand information and experiences of Egyptian life and culture. In addition, students have the opportunity to ask questions and share their comments. The lectures take place on Monday November 5, 2007 from 9:00-12:00 noon. The five schools are; Dunbar High School, Federal Hill Preparatory, Bentalou Elementary School, Dr. Bernard Harris Elementary School, and Digital Harbor High School. |
